What is our society’s relationship with consumerism? To explore this, I created The Pink, satirical magazine covers that mock our consumption habits. Each cover explores the irony of consumers attempting to purchase fulfillment with little regard to their health or the health of the earth. The miniature scale symbolizes the inadequate amount of thought we give to consumerism’s impact on humans and on the earth. The pink color and The Pink title are a play on the expression “in the pink of health”. We think we are in the pink as we consume material things, but are we really?
